The Nanton District Assembly has successfully elected a new Presiding Member following a special meeting held at the Assembly Hall on Thursday, September 24, 2026.
The election brought together Assembly Members, officials of the Electoral Commission, the presiding judicial authority, management of the Assembly, and other stakeholders to ensure that the process was conducted in an orderly and transparent manner.
The meeting had been convened specifically for the election of a Presiding Member, with the agenda providing for an opening prayer, roll call, statements by the District Chief Executive and nominees, the election itself, the swearing-in of the Presiding Member-elect, announcements, and a closing prayer.
The Electoral Commission oversees the voting process.
The Electoral Commission of Ghana supervised the voting and subsequently issued the official declaration of results.
According to the declaration, the Nanton District Assembly has 31 members, with 30 members present and voting during the election. The result recorded 30 valid votes, with no rejected ballots.
Hon. Inusah Ibn Hassan received 24 YES votes, representing 77.42%, while 6 members voted NO, representing 22.58%. The Electoral Commission therefore declared Hon. Inusah Ibn Hassan elected as Presiding Member of the Nanton District Assembly.
The figures recorded in the declaration provide the official account of the ballots cast during the election.
Collaborative and orderly conduct
The successful conduct of the election reflected cooperation among the various institutions and individuals involved in the process. The Electoral Commission worked with the Assembly Members and the judicial authority to facilitate the proceedings and ensure that the election followed the required process.
The cooperation of the Assembly Members was particularly important as they participated directly in the election of the Presiding Member. Under Ghana’s local governance framework, the Presiding Member is elected by Assembly Members from among themselves. The Presiding Member also plays an important role in presiding over meetings of the Assembly.
The involvement of judicial officers in the formal proceedings and swearing-in of Presiding Members is also consistent with practices followed during Presiding Member elections in other District Assemblies in Ghana.
A new chapter for the Assembly
With the election and declaration of Hon. Inusah Ibn Hassan as Presiding Member, the Nanton District Assembly now has its Presiding Member in place to lead the Assembly’s deliberative proceedings.
The occasion also provided an opportunity for the Assembly to demonstrate the importance of institutional cooperation in local governance. The coordinated participation of the Electoral Commission, the judicial authority, Assembly Members and Assembly management contributed to the smooth completion of the electoral process.
As the Assembly moves forward, the new Presiding Member will work within the Assembly’s structures alongside the District Chief Executive, District Coordinating Director, Assembly Members, heads of departments and other stakeholders in carrying out the Assembly’s mandate and supporting development within the Nanton District.

The successful election marks an important administrative milestone for the Nanton District Assembly. With the electoral process completed and the results formally declared, attention can now return to the Assembly’s core responsibilities of deliberation, decision-making, and local development.
