The Nanton District Assembly participated in the 2026 Annual Budget Hearing organized at the Northern Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) in Tamale. The hearing brought together several Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs), including the Nanton District Assembly, Sagnarigu Municipal Assembly, Gushiegu Municipal Assembly, and other assemblies within the Northern Region.

The hearing provided a platform for the participating assemblies to present and review their budget performance, with particular emphasis on comparing their 2025 financial performance with their performance from January to September 2026. The presentations also covered budget information from 2024 as a basis for assessing progress over time and provided an outlook on proposed programs and priorities for the 2027 fiscal year.

Assessing Budget Performance: 2025 Against January–September 2026

A major focus of the hearing was the assessment of the assemblies’ financial performance in 2025 against the results recorded between January and September 2026.

The presentations provided an opportunity to examine progress in revenue mobilization, expenditure management, budget implementation, and the execution of planned development programs. The comparative review was intended to highlight improvements, identify gaps, and assess the extent to which the assemblies had achieved their financial and developmental targets.

The January–September 2026 reporting period offered insight into the assemblies’ progress during the first nine months of the year and helped identify areas requiring additional attention before the end of the financial year.

The review also provided an opportunity to assess internally generated revenue (IGF) performance, the utilization of funds, and the implementation of priority projects and programs. These assessments were important for strengthening financial discipline and ensuring that public resources were directed towards activities that addressed the needs of local communities.

Reviewing Previous Budget Performance

Although the presentations covered budget information dating back to 2024, the comparative assessment of 2025 and January–September 2026 formed the central focus of the hearing.

The historical information provided a broader perspective for evaluating financial trends, assessing progress in budget execution, and identifying recurring challenges affecting revenue mobilization and expenditure.

Through the review, the participating MMDAs had an opportunity to reflect on previous performance and consider measures to improve financial management, budget implementation, and service delivery.

Outlook for the 2027 Fiscal Year

Beyond the review of past and current performance, the hearing provided a platform for the assemblies to outline their outlook for the 2027 fiscal year.

The forward-looking discussions focused on the importance of realistic budget projections, effective resource allocation, and alignment between proposed expenditure and local development priorities.

The planning process also highlighted the need for assemblies to identify critical development interventions, strengthen revenue mobilization strategies, and ensure that proposed programs were supported by appropriate financial and operational plans.

The lessons drawn from the 2025 performance and the January–September 2026 results were expected to inform future budget decisions and contribute to more effective planning for 2027.

Promoting Accountability and Effective Financial Management

The 2026 Annual Budget Hearing served as an important platform for accountability, performance assessment, and coordination among the participating assemblies and the Northern Regional Coordinating Council.

The presentations and discussions encouraged the systematic review of budget implementation and highlighted the importance of transparency, prudent expenditure, and responsible management of public funds.

The engagement also reinforced the need for continuous monitoring of budget performance to identify implementation challenges early and support timely corrective measures.
