The Nanton District Assembly has disbursed cash support to selected Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the district as part of efforts to promote their socio-economic empowerment, education, and inclusion in community development.
The support was provided under key intervention areas designed to address the diverse needs of PWDs and enable beneficiaries to improve their livelihoods and participate more actively in society.
The beneficiaries received support in the following categories:
Farming
PWDs engaged in farming activities received financial support to enable them to invest in their agricultural activities. The assistance is expected to help beneficiaries acquire farming inputs and meet other operational needs, thereby improving their productivity and household livelihoods.
Business and Income-Generating Activities
Support was also provided to PWDs undertaking businesses and other income-generating activities (IGAs). The intervention is intended to help beneficiaries establish, expand, or strengthen their businesses and create sustainable sources of income.
Through this support, beneficiaries are expected to improve their economic independence while contributing to the development of their families and communities.
Education and Bursaries
The Assembly also supported PWDs pursuing education through educational assistance and bursaries. The intervention seeks to reduce financial barriers that may prevent persons with disabilities from accessing or continuing their education.
The support forms part of efforts to promote equal opportunities in education and ensure that disability does not become a barrier to academic and personal development.
Meetings for Persons with Disabilities
The program also included support for meetings of Persons with Disabilities, providing an avenue for PWDs to come together, discuss issues affecting them, and strengthen their collective participation in matters concerning their welfare and development.
The meetings are expected to enhance communication, coordination, and collaboration among PWDs and relevant stakeholders within the district.
The cash support program demonstrates the Nanton District Assembly’s commitment to promoting the inclusion, empowerment, and welfare of Persons with Disabilities. By supporting livelihoods, education, and organized engagement, the Assembly continues to create opportunities for PWDs to become more economically independent and actively participate in the development of the district.
