On Tuesday, 10th June 2025, the Nanton District Assembly successfully conducted a Headcount Exercise in line with a directive from the Office of the Local Government Service (OLGS). The exercise, which took place at the District Assembly premises, forms part of ongoing efforts by the Local Government Service to strengthen public sector human resource management and improve accountability within the local governance structure.

The purpose of the headcount was to:

  • Verify the physical presence of all staff members.
  • Authenticate personnel records.
  • Ensure alignment between payroll and actual staff deployment.
  • Identify and address issues of ghost names, absenteeism, and unauthorized postings.

The Headcount was supervised by designated officials from the Office of the Local Government Service in collaboration with the Assembly’s Human Resource Department and District Coordinating Director (DCD). All staff members were required to present valid identification, sign attendance logs, and undergo verification against existing records.

The exercise was conducted smoothly and with full cooperation from all departments and units. The DCD commended the staff for their punctuality and urged continued professionalism and commitment to duty.

This directive, as part of a nationwide initiative, is aimed at sanitizing the local government payroll system and enhancing transparency and efficiency in public administration. Reports from the Nanton District Assembly will be submitted to the OLGS for review and further action.
