The Nanton District Assembly recently held a critical workshop as part of the ongoing USAID/Ghana Performance Accountability Activity (PAA). This event, organized in collaboration with Democracy International and NORSAAC, was aimed at enhancing the implementation and monitoring of the approved Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) 2024 Annual Action Plans (AAPs).
The workshop, which took place at the Pentecost Church, Nanton, brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from the district planning office, civil society organizations (CSOs), and other community participants. The agenda was structured to ensure a thorough review of the MMDAs’ AAPs and to identify gaps in their implementation to ensure successful outcomes in 2024.
Agenda Highlights
Arrival and Registration (8:00 – 9:00 am): Participants arrived and registered for the event.
• Introduction of Participants and Ice Breaker (9:20 – 9:30 am): Facilitated by a District Planning Officer, this session allowed participants to introduce themselves and engage in an interactive ice-breaking activity, setting the tone for the day’s discussions.
• Welcome Remarks (9:30 – 9:40 am): The District Planning Officer formally welcomed all attendees and outlined the importance of the workshop in enhancing performance accountability at the local level.
• View of Ghana Performance Accountability Activity (9:40 – 10:00 am): NORSAAC provided an overview of the Performance Accountability Activity, emphasizing the role of CSOs in supporting communities within the approved MMDAs’ 2024 AAPs.
• Presentation Covering MMDAs 2024 Annual Action Plans (10:00 – 11:00 am): The District Planning Officer presented an in-depth analysis of the MMDAs’ 2024 AAPs, highlighting progress, existing gaps, and strategies for improvement.
• Breakout Session (11:15 am – 12:00 pm): Participants were divided into groups to discuss interventions within their respective areas or zonal councils as outlined in the AAPs. The groups were tasked with developing actionable plans for monitoring the implementation of these interventions.
• Presentation of Reports from Breakout Sessions and Discussions (12:00 – 1:00 pm): The breakout groups presented their findings and proposed action plans. This session allowed for a rich exchange of ideas and strategies among participants.
• Way Forward and Closing Remarks (1:45 pm): The event concluded with a session on the way forward, where all participants reconvened to summarize the day’s discussions and lay out the next steps for monitoring and implementing the AAPs.
Conclusion
The workshop was a significant step towards ensuring that the MMDAs’ 2024 AAPs are effectively implemented and monitored, with strong support from both local communities and CSOs. The Nanton District Assembly remains committed to fostering transparency, accountability, and community involvement in local governance.
